The Fender Bullet, a US Frankenstein gone to Japan
The Fender bullet basses are mostly representative of the dusk of the CBS era : cheapened series (the Bullet guitars and basses) side by side with experimental models (i.e the Elite series). The Bullet basses were firstly produced in the US in 1982-83 then transfered to the newly opened japanese manufacture under the Squier brand in 1984-85. Its short life is probably linked with the will of the new Fender Musical Instrument Company to produce renewed instruments like in the good pre-CBS times.
The bullet was meant to replace the outgoing Mustang and Musicmaster (Fender's so called "student" guitars). The Bullet Bass had Mustang style pickups, but was available with a standard 34" neck (the B-34 like the P-Bass) or a short scale 30" neck (the B-30 like the Mustang).
The bullets are basicly lightened P-Bass, with a non-contoured body, a Telecaster-bass neck (probably recycled parts from the withdrawned Telecaster bass) .
