Fender Performer bass : how to be remarkable on stage?

It used to be a time where instruments had to be as weird as possible to attract attention on the bass players on stage. The Fender Performer series may be typical of the 80's with its angles and radical look. Even the pickups were weird!

These basses used to be produced between 1985 and 1987. They were designed by John Page that many fender maniacs know as one of Fender's Custom shop pillars. For those of us that are collecting these gems in the rough, the Performer used to be quite cheap until recently. They sound like a mix of an Elite P-Bass and a Jazz Bass which makes it quite versatile and its look is so typical of the 80's era.

(the Performer's head is as radical as the body which makes it quite coherent on the whole)

It's been a long time since Fender dared to intiate news radical designs, maybe because guitar and bass players tend to be conservatives these days when legendary brands like Fender or Gibson are at stake.
